Veolia provides municipal heating services for Kedong County in Qiqihar, Heilongjiang Province, an area of approximately 2.93 million square metres.
After taking over the power plant, Veolia instituted upgrades that optimized the 3x58 MW hot water boiler, the 2×75 tons/hour steam boiler and 2×15 MW condensing steam turbine. It is expected to provide heating services for 5 million square metres of residents, companies and commercial entities.
While the plant is primarily coal-based at this time, Veolia also collects waste stalks from local corn and soybean plants as biomass to provide additional renewable energy solutions. The long-term plan is to transition the plant to 100% biomass energy production of green heat and electricity.
