The Veolia Solution
In Hong Kong, Veolia built a world-class wastewater sludge incineration unit, providing energy efficient treatment of sludge from the city’s wastewater treatment plants. But the cutting-edge facility goes far beyond just that. It is a truly innovative complex that combines a variety of advanced technologies, and is fully autonomous and self-sufficient in energy and water.
T-Park, one of the world’s largest and most technologically advanced sludge treatment facilities, treats up to 2,000 tons of sludge per day. The facility is fully energy and water self-sufficient: the thermal energy from incineration generates enough electricity to power the entire Plant and be allocated for public use, and a seawater desalination plant on site produces 600m3 of drinking water per day, fulfilling all of the plant’s water usage needs. The treatment process reduces 90% of the sludge volume, easing the pressure on Hong Kong’s landfills.
Complete with a visitor gallery, lecture theatre, sea view cafeteria, spa pools, observation platform and vast green areas, the facility adds a public engagement and education component to the city’s sustainability efforts.
