Nantes Métropole selects Veolia to upgrade its La Roche water production plant

The Nantes Métropole local government authority has selected Veolia to upgrade the La Roche water production plant and make supply more reliable for the close to 600,000 people served. The contract is worth 64.5 million euros for the consortium headed by Veolia subsidiary OTV.

The contract, worth 64.5 million euros before tax, has been awarded to Veolia subsidiary OTV, which will head up a consortium bringing together partners in civil engineering and subcontractors specializing in pumping and pipe installations, will take charge of the design and construction of the structures and supply the treatment process Equipment.

Advanced technologies, technical expertise and environmental performance

The project to upgrade the La Roche water production plant has become indispensable due to the area's economic development and changes in standards for water quality. Upgrading the plant, which serves close to 600,000 people, is now a strategic necessity for the 24 districts making up Nantes Métropole.
Located on a 12 hectare site on the outskirts of Nantes in western France, the La Roche plant is set to undergo an exemplary overhaul. Nantes Métropole will take possession of a plant that will last for the next 50 years whether in terms of its advanced technologies, technical expertise or environmental performance.

A total of 160 million liters of water will be produced per day using two Veolia technologies, ACTIFLO® and ACTIFLO® Carb. This dual process will guarantee production of first-class quality water no matter what the variations in the flow or condition of the input water.

Apart from the technical expertise supplied, Veolia has made firm commitments as regards the security and reliability of the plant, as well as for the work calendar. These commitments will let the operator provide water of a consistent quality throughout the period of upgrade work.
From studies, design and construction through to commissioning, this massive project will last six years. From 2017, water distribution will be dealt with by the new facility. Final commissioning is planned for second half 2019.

"Nantes Métropole's choice is a recognition of Veolia's expertise in the design and construction of plants that are exceptional due to their size and the technical complexity of the processes implemented. The challenge of this large-scale operation is to put in place a new, more effective water treatment process that will comply with the latest European regulations. It also offers the opportunity to improve the plant's environment and make it more ergonomic and efficient."
