Resource recovery
Veolia treats and recovers waste to reincorporate materials into industrial or agricultural production and generate energy.
Veolia's Case Studies
The world needs new resources to meet the need of the growing population. Adopting an innovative and responsible mindset and efficient technologies, Veolia provides water, waste and energy management solutions to cities and businesses around the world to support the sustainable development of communities and minimize impacts to the environment.
Municipal solid waste collection and transfer
Veolia has the comprehensive knowledge and expertise necessary to set up an efficient waste collection system fitting the specific requirements of local public authorities. Veolia manages the whole process of collecting and transferring municipal solid waste in a secure and environmentally friendly way with modern information technology tools to track the waste route and final treatment.
Sludge treatment
Municipal sludge is the main potential secondary polluting source during sewage treatment since it contains a large number of organic pollutants and hazardous components such as pathogens, heavy metals and carcinogenic chemicals.
Landfill-Gas-to-Energy
Landfill gas is a mix of methane and carbon dioxide. Methane is a flammable toxic greenhouse gas twenty times more damaging to the climate than carbon dioxide. Instead of going into the atmosphere and becoming a greenhouse gas which is harmful to the environment, it can be collected in every landfill and used to produce renewable energy.
Integrated services for waste management
Integrated services refer to the integration of mechanical and biological, Waste-to-Energy and landfill treatments in order to manage the wide range of waste characteristics. Integrated services ensure that the best processing technology is used to dispose of the proper type of waste in a way that is both low in carbon emissions while being environmentally friendly.
Biological treatment - anaerobic digestion/composting
Biological treatments of organic waste - through aerobic composting units' and anaerobic centers' management - this will prove to be the best approach over time. With more than 100 composting units in the world, Veolia helps to revitalize soil with composts and organic fertilizers and recovers energy through a biological treatment of waste that includes aerobic composting and anaerobic digestion suitable for organic waste disposal.
Landfills
Veolia manages more than 150 landfills in the world. Its landfill management system can effectively protect soil and underground water and as well as limiting the emission of greenhouse gases by incorporating specifically developed high-dimension landfill technology: impermeable membrane lining, leachate collection and treatment systems, and utilisation of landfill gas, and strict environmental monitoring.
Waste-to-Energy
Veolia manages more than 90 Waste-to-Energy facilities in the world to treat municipal solid waste while creating renewable energy. Considering the low heat value of municipal solid waste, Veolia has the expertise to adapt all the existing technologies to the different types of waste for an optimal heat and electricity generation.
